The prestigious international magazine International Financial Law Review chose WEIL as the “The Most Successful Firm of the Year 2011” from among international law firms active in the Czech Republic. WEIL received the “2010 Law Firm of the Year” Award in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Arbitration and Dispute Resolution categories from EPRAVO.CZ. Mergermarket selected WEIL as the most successful legal advisor in the field of mergers and acquisitions in the Czech Republic for 2009 measured by both the number and value of the transactions. In 2009, WEIL also received the prestigious award “Chambers Europe Award for Excellence” for an international law firm active in the Czech Republic after it had previously been awarded the same prize also in 2008. In 2008, the firm was also awarded the “Best Law Firm in the Czech Republic by Client Choice” award in a prestigious survey organized globally among law firm clients by International Law Office, an international independent Internet portal. In late 2008, WEIL won the first year of the survey Law Firm of the Year organized by EPRAVO.CZ in the Telecommunications and Media category. Together with the firm’s offices in Poland and Hungary, WEIL Prague received from Financial Times / Mergemarket the award “Best Law Firm in Central and Eastern Europe in the field of M&A for 2007”. WEIL was further proclaimed by the International Financial Law Review/Euromoney as the “Czech Law Firm of the Year 2006” while having received the same award back in 2004. Mergers and Acquisitions WEIL provides legal services in the field of mergers and acquisitions to a wide range of local and international clients and participates in the largest transactions in that area in the Czech Republic. WEIL has been providing legal services to ČEZ (the Czech Energy Company) in connection with a number of domestic and foreign transactions including, for example, the sale of Chvaletice power plant in relation to the conclusion of option agreements for the sale of Počerady power plant and the contemplated sale of Dětmarovice power plant; or a selection of a partner for the construction of 2 new units of the Temelín nuclear power plant, which has been the largest M&A transaction in the past decade in the Czech Republic. As regards foreign transactions, WEIL provided legal advice to ČEZ in connection with the sale of its 50% shareholding in German mining company MIBRAG and the acquisition of a 75% shareholding in a leading Polish wind farms developer EcoWind Construction. It also acted as its advisor for many other acquisitions in the Central, East and Southeast Europe regions, including Germany, Poland, Romania and Turkey. The firm has also advised the MOL Group in connection with its acquisition of a service station network from Lukoil. Recently, WEIL has also provided legal consultancy to Telefónica Czech Republic in connection with its sale to the PPF Group, and acted or still acts as counsel to private equity investors on transactions such as the recent acquisition of a retailer engaging in business activities in several Central European markets.
